History:

The 49th separate assault battalion "Carpathian Sich" named after Oleg Kutsyn is a Ukrainian volunteer unit of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The unit was created by Oleg Kutsyn in 2014. during the Russian-Ukrainian war as a separate volunteer company "Carpathian Sich". In 2015, the detachment became part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 93rd mechanized brigade. In 2015, the detachment became a company, took part in battles near the Donetsk airport: battles for Pisky, Butovka mine, Vodyane, Opytne. The company was disbanded in 2016.

After the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, the unit was re-established as a volunteer battalion "ODCH Karpatska Sich". In May, the battalion was reformed into the 49th Rifle Battalion "Karpatska Sich", which became part of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He fought battles near Kyiv: in Irpen, Romanivka, and in the Brovary direction. After the de-occupation of Kyiv Region, he was transferred to Kharkiv Region, where he participated in the storming and liberation of: Virnopil, Dmitrivka, Komyshuvakha, Topolsky, Izyum. After the deoccupation of Kharkiv Region, he was relocated to Donetsk Region, where he participated in the storming and liberation of: Terniv, Kreminnaya, Makiivka.

The unit is named after the "Karpatska Sich" people's defense organization that existed in Transcarpathia in the 1930s.
